Invited to Speak

Well, I am praising the Lord as I have been asked to speak at a ladies conference in February. It is going to be held in Aklavik and hosted by Mrs Noland. Her and her husband (along with their family) have been missionaries there for about a year I think. Mrs Noland called me last night and asked me. The theme is going to be Women In God's Service. I am very excited and also very thankful for the opportunity to speak. Praise the Lord! I am so thankful that He opens doors for us to serve Him even when we weren't looking for a door!

I am so thankful for my Shane and all he does for me. I am truly blessed to have a husband like him.

Bumpy Road to Aklavik

Friday night Our youth was invited to Aklavik. There the Nolands (who are missionaries there) were hosting a youth night. So Shane and our pastor organized it so that we could bring the youth. We borrowed one of Shane's dad's vans and Pastor drove for us. We headed out for the ice road (the only road to Aklavik) around 5:30 Friday night. The ice road is very bumpy this year. I am told it is the bumpiest anyone has ever seen it. It's bumpy cause it wasn't plowed correctly. So anyway a trip that normally would be 1 hour and 20 minutes or so turned out to be around 2 1/2 hours. I sat in the front row with Shane so the ride wasn't so bad for us...but the girls in the back got thrown around a lot.

Once we were there we went to the youth night and had a great time. We went to the Nolands house for supper afterward. Mrs Noland had some soup that was gluten free for me. It was yummy :-) The ride back to Inuvik was better than the ride to Aklavik. We left around 11:30 Friday night and I got the front seat this time because I am pregnant. hehe. Shane and I talked with Pastor for the first 45 minutes or hour then we both fell asleep the rest of the ride. I didn't wake up until we were pulling into the gas station in Inuvik. By this time it was 2:30 Saturday morning. We were exhausted...so exhausted that we went to sleep as soon as we got home and didn't wake up again until 2:00 in the afternoon. It was a tiresome night but well worth it. I had a great time going to Aklavik and riding the ice road for the first time.

New Things

I have experienced quite a few new things this past weekend. This weekend Inuvik has been celebrating the Return of the Sun Festival. (Yay! It's back!)

Saturday I went with my new friend, Holly, to the Tropicana commercial thing. I met her at her house at 9:30 am. It was about -30 or -35 outside. We walked from her house to the elementary where they were going to light this big balloon. We didn't actually know what all was going to happen but we wanted to go see. So we stood there freezing...well...only my toes were freezing...but we stood there for a half hour or so waiting for something to happen. Finally they turned on a light inside this huge balloon which was about 25 yards off the ground. They were filming people and such and Holly and I were like, 'Is this all?' See, we didn't know what was supposed to happen so we didn't know if that was all. So we figured with how lame that was it couldn't possibly be the exciting thing everyone was talking about so we stood and waited another half hour. By then it was 10:30 and we decided to start walking back because it was too cold. We went to her house and thawed out then we thought we could drive up in the truck and sit in there to wait cause it would be so much warmer. By the time we got back there everyone was leaving. We couldn't believe we stood in the cold for that long just to see the balloon lit up. So we went home.

That night Shane and I had his friend, Justin, over for supper then the three of us went to the fireworks and bonfire. It was all part of the festival. That was pretty fun. I felt like a marshmallow I had so many layers on. But...I didn't get cold! I loved watching the fireworks. Shane said they were much better than the ones he'd seen here in the past.

Then last night we went to the Snow's house. They are a family from our church. Mrs Snow made split pea soup..gluten free! Yummo. I loved it. After wards they had dried moose meat so I thought I oughta try some. It was okay. Not my favorite but it was good. Then after that they taught me a popular game up here called Crib. It was really confusing but I was starting to catch on.

So anyways that was my exciting new weeked.

The News Is Out

Well, if you have read my Shane's post on his blog you already know I am pregnant. We are very excited (of course). The baby is due on August 13, so please keep us in your prayers. I am beginning to experience that "morning sickness" but let me tell you...it is not restricted to the morning. So anyways that is our new exciting news.

We had a great time the past few weeks. I had two weeks off and Shane had just last week off. It was certainly a time of rest. We really needed it. Monday we are both back to work which we are excited for. I am anxious to see the kids again and also to be back on a regular schedule.

Well, I believe that is all for now. Bye.
